EarthGang on Revenge of the Dreamers III: the songs and the Grammy run
EarthGang's role on Dreamville's Revenge of the Dreamers III, including the Grammy-nominated Down Bad, Sacrifices, and 1993.
In January 2019, Dreamville took over an Atlanta studio for one of the most famous recording sessions in modern rap, and EarthGang was right in the middle of it.
Ten days at Tree Sound
From January 6 to 16, 2019, J. Cole's label invited 343 artists and producers to Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta. More than a hundred songs were recorded. The final compilation, Revenge of the Dreamers III, came out July 5, 2019, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It has since gone platinum.
EarthGang's songs
- "Down Bad" with J. Cole, JID, Bas, and Young Nudy. It reached No. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Rap Performance at the 2020 Grammys.
- "Sacrifices" with J. Cole, featuring Smino and Saba.
- "1993" with J. Cole, JID, and Cozz, featuring Buddy and Smino.
- "Wells Fargo", an interlude with JID, Buddy, and Guapdad 4000.
The deluxe Director's Cut added more songs with EarthGang on them.
The Grammy moment
The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammys, and "Down Bad" earned EarthGang its first Grammy nomination as performers. For a duo that had spent a decade self-releasing music, it was a huge step, and it came just two months before Mirrorland was released.
D-Day
Dreamville followed up in 2022 with D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which also featured EarthGang and reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200.
