Perfect Fantasy explained: EarthGang's independent boss battle
Everything to know about Perfect Fantasy (2024), EarthGang's first independent album and the finale of the EarthGang vs. the Algorithm era.
Perfect Fantasy is EarthGang's most ambitious swing, and their first album released independently.
The basics
- Released: Tuesday, October 29, 2024, an unusual day, since most albums come out on Fridays
- Partner: UnitedMasters
- Lead single: "Love You More" featuring T-Pain, released October 11, 2024
- Vinyl: pressings arrived in 2025
Tokyolanta
The album is heavily inspired by Japanese culture. The artwork borrows from retro Japanese pop: katakana lettering, arcade colors, and anime-style characters. The duo nicknamed the world of the album "Tokyolanta," Atlanta crossed with Tokyo. They backed it up with headline shows in Mexico City on release night and in Tokyo on December 5, 2024, their first show in Japan.
The boss battle
Perfect Fantasy closed out a multi-project series called EarthGang vs. the Algorithm. WowGr8 framed the whole run as a video game: the algorithm is the boss, and this album is the boss battle. The theme is how technology and AI shape our lives, and the album imagines a world where people can create more freely. Read our guide to the Algorithm era.
The guests
- T-Pain on "Love You More"
- Pharrell Williams on "U Gotta"
- Snoop Dogg on the title track
- Damon Albarn of Gorillaz and Blur on "Godly"
- Little Dragon on "Deep Blue"
Several songs carry over from the EPs earlier in the series, including "Bobby Boucher," "Osmosis," "Put in Work," and "Blacklight." The album closes with "Imagine."
Why it matters
Going independent after years with Dreamville and Interscope was a statement. The album feels like the duo doing exactly what they want, and the story keeps going: their 2026 comic book picks up the same idea of artists versus an attention-hungry AI.
